What is the local currency?
The currency used in Bali is the Indonesian Rupiah (Rp).
Should I change money before I go?
It’s up to you whether or not you change money before your trip. You may get a better exchange rate by changing money before your trip, but there are plenty of ATMs available in Bali’s main towns and at the airport.
How much should I budget per day for extras?
It’s up to you how much money you budget for each day as you know your spending habits better than we do. For reference, an average meal in Bali costs between 3-5 USD and an alcoholic drink costs around 2-4 USD. Please remember to budget extra if you plan on buying gifts and souvenirs.
Is it customary to tip?
A tip of around 5-10 USD per day for the Pack Leader would be appreciated but is not compulsory. Many Flashpackers choose to keep a kitty and give this to the Pack Leader at the end of the trip.
In upmarket restaurants and bars, it’s normal to tip around 10-15%, but this is based on the service you have received. Tips are not expected at budget restaurants and street food stalls.
