Yes, we recommend you change your money before travelling to get the best rates. However, Banks in Malaysia are linked to networks such as PLUS, Maestro, Cirrus and many more. You can withdraw cash at local ATMs 24 hours a day. ATMs are readily available in the city, major shopping malls, airports and some rural towns.
How much should I budget per day for extras?
We recommend to budget around £20 - £30 per day should be okay, but this is guidance only as you know your spending patterns better than we do.
Is it customary to tip?
Tipping is not mandatory in Malaysia but will be greatly appreciated by the receivers.
Then for your guide and driver, it is customary, though not compulsory to tip them around £3-5 a day, this would normally be given at the end of the adventure and is completely up to you and whether you feel they have earnt it. For restaurants and bars giving a 10% tip is fairly normal in Malaysia. Tips are not compulsory and is entirely at your own discretion.
