What is the local currency?
The local currency in China is Renminbi (RMB), also known as Chinese Yuan (CNY).
Should I change money before I go?
You may want to exchange money before you travel, but there are money exchange points as well as ATMs at all locations throughout the trip. You will also be able to pay with any major credit cards at most places (not all places will take AMEX).
How much should I budget per day for extras?
Shanghai will be more expensive than the more rural areas of China, but if you budget around £30 - £50 a day, it should be plenty, but this is guidance only as you know your spending patterns better than we do.
Is it customary to tip?
In China, tipping is not expected and is not necessary. Of course, voluntary tipping is completely up to you, but in places like restaurants, bars or taxis it is extremely rare.
For your guide and driver, it is customary, though not compulsory to tip them around £ 5-8 a day, this would normally be given at the end of the adventure and is completely up to you and whether you feel they have earnt it.
