What is there to do during the free time in Chiang Mai?
There are some optional activities you could do in your free time, such as a massage, bike tour, cooking class, a taste of Chiang Mai tour and so on. Your guide will be able to help you book any of these extras or suggest some nice places to just wander around and take in the local life.
I don't know how to ride a bike, is there an alternative?
Rental local transportation is available in each town.
What shoes should I wear for the treks?
Hiking boots are recommended, but not essential, you should have sturdy, comfortable, closed shoes that support your ankles.
It’s a good idea that they’re not brand new, you don’t want to be breaking in shoes on your hike, that’s the fastest way to blisters.
What clothing is recommended for the treks?
You should wear comfortable, lightweight clothing, definitely not jeans.
Do I need to wear insect repellent on the treks?
Absolutely, it’s a must.
What do I need to carry with me on the treks?
You will need to carry your day-pack which should include, sunscreen, lip balm, sun-hat, sunglasses, water bottle, camera, and a light rain jacket.
What is the difficulty level of each trek?
All the treks are relatively gentle.
How long do the treks take?
The estimated trekking time varies for each group, but it can take up to 2.5hrs.
Is there anywhere to change after swimming in the Huay Sathan waterfall?
There are no changing rooms by the waterfall. But there are pretty secluded areas where you can discreetly change behind your towel.
Will all equipment be provided for the white-water rafting?
Yes, all equipment will be prepared for the group.
Is there anything specific for the rafting I need to bring with me?
You should bring your towel and dry clothes.
If the conditions are not right for white-water rafting, what is the alternative activity?
If white-water rafting is not available, your guide will be able to offer the group some alternative options depending on the availability on the day.
How long is the white-water rafting activity?
The white-water rafting will take approximately 2 hours.
Do I need to be a strong swimmer?
Since everyone has to put on lifejackets, it won’t be necessary to be a strong swimmer.
What facilities does the boat have on the boat trip?
There’ll be some refreshments available on the boat.
Will the cooking class cater to my diet/allergies?
The cooking class can cater for most allergies and dietary requirements, please contact us before you travel so we can inform the pack leader.
What is there to do during the free time in Luang Prabang?
- Go to Mount Phu Si – a famous view point for watching the sunrise or sunset
- Visit Traditional Arts & Ethnology Centre
- Pay respect to ancient temples such as Wat Xieng Thong
- Visit National Royal Palace museum
- Visit Ock Pop Tok – Living Craft Centre
- Enjoy cooking class
- Massage such as at Lao Red Cross Sauna & Massage

Is there anywhere to change after the Kuang Si waterfall swim?
There are changing rooms located at the waterfall and at the parking lot.
Is bedding provided on the sleeper train?
Overnight sleeper trains in Thailand are air-conditioned with sleeping berths down both side of the carriage. The carriage is multishare, and there are curtains that close over the beds. A sleeping sheet and a pillow are provided, and our luggage travels in the carriage with us. There is a western and an Asian-style toilet located at the end of the carriage, with carriage lights staying on during the night.
How many people share a berth?
One person on one bed which can be upper or lower bed. There are 40 beds per carriage.
What kind of beds are on the train?
They are similar to bunk beds (top and bottom).
Will the berth I am in only have other Flashpackers?
Train tickets are subject to availability which we cannot guarantee.
Is there food and drink onboard the train?
Yes, there are refreshments and food on the train.
How long does the train take?
The train journey is approximately 12-13hrs, but this is overnight, so you’ll be asleep for most of it and won’t miss anything.
Is the train air-conditioned?
Yes, it is.
