What time do the activities start on each day?
This will depend on the itinerary for the day. Your guide will decide the exact time based on their experience and the weather. You will be provided more detailed information about the itinerary for each day in your pre-trip app and each day by the guide.
How long is each activity?
This may vary according to the activity, however the app will give you a rough idea of how long each activity is and your guide is there to advise locally.
Do I need hiking boots?
You’ll need shoes that have good grip, are comfortable and you aren’t worried about getting a little muddy, but hiking shoes aren’t a necessity.
What clothing is recommended for the hiking?
A detailed packing list will be provided in your app, however it is best to bring a rain jacket and thin layers as the weather can often change.
What do I need to carry with me on the hikes?
Just your camera, a hat, sunscreen (suntan lotion) and water.
What is the difficulty level of the hikes?
There are some uphill climbs in Hakone, but all are suitable for beginners.
How long does each hike take?
The estimated trekking time varies for each group but it generally takes 1.5-2.5hrs.
Can I wear a swimsuit in the onsen?
You must be fully nude to enter the onsen. You may be able to book a private session, your guide will be able to advise you on that.
I have a tattoo, can I go in the onsen?
Generally tattoos are not allowed in public baths, but your guide may be able to help you book time in a private bath. If your tattoo is small enough to be covered by a plaster this should be okay.
I don't drink alcohol, are there alternative activities to the whisky and sake tastings?
There will be a variety of activities you can do, you could either join the rest of the group or enjoy free time while the group is trying sake or whisky, your guide will be able to give you a few recommendations of things to do.
I don't eat fish, can I skip the sushi class? What can I do instead?
We can arrange for you to make non-fish sushi if you like. Otherwise, you can enjoy free time in Tokyo while the others have their class.
Are there any clothing specifications for entering the temples and shrines?
There are no specific rules in regards to clothing, but please use common sense and try to be respectful. When entering temple buildings, you may be required to take off your shoes. Try to wear nice clean socks, or bring a spare pair with you if you plan to wear open-toe footwear like sandals.
Am I allowed to take photos in the temples and shrines?
Photography is usually permitted on the temple grounds. It is forbidden indoors at some temples. Watch for signs and make sure to ask your guide too.
What clothing should I wear for the ninja class?
Ninja clothes rental is provided for training. Please wear loose fitting clothes to wear underneath. Any color is fine, but black looks best in photos!
Is there another activity I can do if I opt out of the ninja class?
You can have some free time exploring Kyoto if you do not want to take part in the class.
How relaxed is this tour? I'm not great with balance on a bike
This tour has lots of activities planned, so there will never be a dull moment. If you are not comfortable with a bike, your guide can help you with a route via taxi or public transportation so you can meet up with the group at all the important stops.
