What is the local currency?
The currency is Japanese Yen (JPY)
Should I change money before I go?
It’s not essential to change money before you arrive, there are money exchanges in the airport as well as in the main town centres operating on the days rate. There are also ATM’s available where you can access your home bank, and most places will take all major credit cards.
How much should I budget per day for extras?
Japan can be quite pricey, but it really depends on your own spending patterns. Although most meals are included in this trip, there a few dinners you’ll have to budget for, add to that a few souvenirs and it’s a good idea to budget £40 - £50 a day, but this is guidance only as you know your spending patterns better than we do.
Is it customary to tip?
Tipping is not compulsory in Japan, in fact many Japanese believe that good service should be the standard and therefore, tipping is not necessary. But if you do wish to show your appreciation for wonderful service the best way to offer a tip is by putting your tip into an envelope, and kindly handing over the money using both hands. Don’t be offended if your tip is not accepted.
Your guide however will be accustomed to receiving tips and if you feel that they have done a great job, do feel free to tip them generally £5-10 a day, but don’t forget to put your tip in an envelope.
