Do I need a visa?

Between 1st August 2019 and 1st January 2020, the following countries' nationals will be able to obtain a free short-stay visa to enter Sri Lanka:

 

Austria    France    Netherlands    Japan, Belgium    Germany    Poland    Australia, Bulgaria    Greece    Portugal    South Korea, Cambodia    Hungary    Romania    Canada, Croatia    Ireland    Slovak Republic    Singapore, Cyprus    Italy    Slovenia    New Zealand, Malta    Latvia    Spain    Malaysia, Denmark    Lithuania    Sweden    Thailand, Estonia    Luxembourg    United Kingdom    Switzerland, Finland    Indonesia    Israel    China

India    Iceland    Norway    Philippines, Russia    Czech Republic    United States of America    Ukraine

You will still need to apply for a visa and this can be done by applying for an e-visa online. If you are travelling on a passport from a country not listed, you will need to pay for a visa.

Although it is still possible to get a visa upon arrival, it’s better to get one before you travel. Tourist visas are normally issued for a maximum period of 30 days.

When do I need to apply for my visa?

Standard visa processing time is 1 business day. This can be applied through Sri Lanka ETA (electronic travel authorisation).
