What's the weather like?
Sri Lankan weather is dictated by two monsoons which bring rain to the west and south-west coasts from May to September; and the east coast and northern region between October and February. The rest of the year is sunny and dry.
Temperatures remain fairly steady throughout the year - coastal areas enjoy average temperatures of 25-30°c while in the highlands the average 15-18°c.
High season is from November to March when the weather is arguably at it's most pleasant. There are benefits to travelling during shoulder season, however, in the form of fewer tourists, lush vegetation and still plenty of sunshine.
