What is the local currency?
Like much of continental Europe, Italy uses the Euro (EUR). It’s a widely available currency!
Should I change money before I go?
ATMs are widely available in Italy, so there’s no need to bring large amounts of cash. Some banks may charge you for withdrawing money abroad, but most places accept major credit cards anyway.
How much should I budget per day for extras?
Around €25 -30 a day should be plenty, but this is guidance only as you know your spending patterns better than we do! If you are planning on buying gifts and souvenirs, remember to budget extra for these!
Is it customary to tip? If so, how much?
A tip of around €3-5 per day for the Pack Leader would be appreciated but is not at all compulsory. Many Flashpackers choose to keep a kitty and give this to the Pack Leader at the end of the trip.
At restaurants and bars, it’s normal to tip between 5 and 10%, but this is at your own discretion.
